Got questions? We got the answers!

How does Humbot work?

Humbot is a text-based tutoring service. Our students simply text our tutors on Facebook Messenger. There is no need for scheduling or video calls. Once a student asks a question, we automatically connect them to a tutor. Usually within a couple of minutes.

How much does it cost?

Unlike conventional tutoring services that charge by the hour, we offer unlimited tutoring for a fixed monthly price of 99 USD. There is an initial free 14 day trial period. There is no minimum commitment, and you can cancel your subscription any time you want.

Why Facebook Messenger? Are there any other platforms?

We decided to start with Messenger because it offers the needed functionality and the majority of people already use it in their daily lives. By not developing our own software, we save a lot of costs that we pass on to our students in the form of affordable prices. However, we plan on developing our own software down the road to offer an even better tutoring experience.

Why texting and not video calling?

We believe that text-based tutoring offers more advantages over video calling.
No time pressure: Our students tell us that because they are not constrained to a one or two-hour slot, they can take their time and think without pressure about what our tutors teach them.
No scheduling: The asynchronous nature of texting allows students to stop leave and pick up the conversation whenever they like. No video calls mean that there is no scheduling, and that we can help students no matter where they are (e.g., on the commute to school, after soccer training).
Anonymity: Video calling is a profoundly intimate experience, and it might feel uncomfortable to student and parent alike. Additionally, students can use Humbot the most comfortable way and don't need to make sure they look adequately dressed and sitting at a table with no background, no noise (like it is in video calling).

Who are the tutors?

Humbot is not a tutoring marketplace. This means all tutors are employed by Humbot, and all teaching best practices are shared and improved together internally to provide the best tutoring experience possible. Humbot is a new and small startup, and we have two tutors. Dorena and Can. They are also the founders of Humbot. Learn more about our tutors.

Which subjects are you tutoring?

We help with every high school subject except foreign languages (like Spanish or French). However, most students use Humbot for Math (e.g., Calculus, Algebra, Geometry) and Science classes.

Do you help with standardized college admission tests?

Yes, we do. By standardized college admission test we mean the very common three letter acronym tests. We can't use its name due to copyright, but we both know what we're talking about.

Which grades do you cover?

We primarily cover 6th through 12th grade. However, some of our students are also attending college and still find Humbot valuable. If you're unsure, just write us an email at hello@humbot.io.

Do you help with homework?

Do you help with exam preparation?

Of course.

Can you just give answers to my homework?

No, we never just do your homework for you. Our goal is to explain you subjects and topics so that you develop a better understanding, not help you cheat. Of course, we do guide you through your homework or review material.

How can you offer unlimited tutoring at this price?

The reason we started Humbot is not to rip students and parents off, but to make tutoring more accessible to the masses. We're offering the lowest price possible so that we can cover our costs. But the most critical factor is that our tutors are using an internal software that gives them superpowers to quickly and expertly help our students. While we started off with $99 per month, our goal in the next years is to lower the price even more and ultimately make tutoring 100 times cheaper than current tutoring platforms. Read more about our strategy in our blog post.

Is it really unlimited?

Yes. We think the worst part of current tutoring solutions are that students are pressured by fixed time slots and feel on the clock. At Humbot, students can text their tutor as much as they want so that they can entirely focus on learning.

How long do I have to wait to talk to a tutor?

We connect you to a tutor as soon as we can. It almost always takes less than 15 minutes.

What is the free 14 day trial period?

If you cancel your subscription within the first 14 days, we will refund your payment entirely. It means that you can test Humbot completely risk-free.

Is there a minimum subscription duration?

No. There is no minimum duration or commitment. You can always cancel your subscription, and we won't charge your credit card anymore. After canceling, you can still use Humbot until the end of your billing period.
