This exercises included exercises done by the subjects

This study of the effect of aerobic exercise
on auditory and visual reaction times was carried out among 50 participants
from the department of Physiology. The subjects were divided into 2 groups with
25 of them in each group. Group I consisted of healthy subjects that do not
perform regular exercise while group II consisted of subjects who performed
regular aerobic exercise at least thirty minutes a day with a frequency on
three to five days per week for a minimum of three to six weeks. All of the
subjects were in ages of 20-50 years old. Participants that were smokers and/or
alcoholic or who were diagnosed with any sickness in the past were excluded
from this study.

The aerobic exercises included exercises
done by the subjects in the gym with the help of an instructor. The exercise
schedule included a session of 5-10 minutes of warming up with an intensity of
50-60 of maximum heart rate followed by a minimum of 20 minutes of exercise at
an intensity of 70-80% of maximum heart rate ending with 5-10 minutes of
cooling down at an intensity of 50-60% of maximum heart rate. The ART and VRT were recorded using a  screen response time equipment. The equipment is
equipped with 3 light stimulus : red, green and yellow and 3 light auditory
stimulus which is  low, medium and high
pitched sounds. All the participants were thoroughly taught about the equipment
and three practice trials were given to each participant before taking the
official reading.                                 Visual reaction time (VRT) :Any one of the three stimuli for light (red,
green and yellow) was given randomly and the participants had to respond to the
stimuli by pushing the knob of the digital display screen equipment by
switching off the given colored light. The time taken for the subject to press
the knob was displayed on the apparatus and the reaction time was recorded in
milliseconds (msec). A total of three readings were recorded for each colour
and the lowest out of all three readings for red, yellow and green were written
as VRTR,  VRTY  and VRTG  respectively.                                                                   Auditory reaction
time (ART) :

The participants were
given randomly with one of the three sound stimuli which is either low, medium
or high pitch by the observer and participants had to respond by pressing the
knob of digital display apparatus by turning off the produced sound. The
reaction time displayed on the apparatus was recorded in msec. Three reading
were recorded for each sound stimulus and the lowest out of the three readings
was taken as the reaction time value for that particular stimulus. The readings
for low, medium or high pitch sound were denoted as ART1 , ART2  and ART3
